St Chad’s College Student Support Fund

St Chad’s College Student Support Fund exists to support the needs of students who are currently fully registered for undergraduate or postgraduate programmes at St Chad’s College. The fund is generously supported by alumni, friends and the Senior Common Room and offers awards which enable students to fulfil their potential.

The Student Support Fund is available to students who face specific and unexpected financial difficulties or emergency circumstances which require immediate financial support. Applications to the fund will also be considered from students who do not feel they meet the criteria for other College scholarships or bursaries but have specific financial need not usually considered within the remit of the Student Support Fund.

Applications to the College Student Support Fund should be sent to the Vice Principal, Dr Victoria Brown, via email and should include an outline of the specific personal circumstances involved and the level of financial support required. Applications should not exceed one side of A4 and will be treated with discretion with the submitted information only being shared with staff involved in agreeing the application outcome. Applicants may also be asked to meet with a member of College staff to discuss their application before an award is made. Similarly, if it is felt that a student would be better placed applying to a different fund, the staff member will be able to provide guidance.

St Chad’s College Student Support Fund is a rolling fund to which applications are welcomed throughout the academic year. Applicants may apply on more than one occasion during their studies but those regularly in financial need may well be referred to the student support team for guidance in relation to long-term budgeting and financial management. Applicants in this position should consider whether Durham University’s Student Support Fund is more appropriate for them.

In previous years, applicants have received funding to support short-term food costs, emergency travel or temporary accommodation. Awards are typically no more than £100 per application. College staff will also act with discretion to make awards to students on the basis that an award will be beneficial to a student’s personal wellbeing.
