St Chad’s Gym is a welcoming, recently renovated space that gives you an escape from the often chaotic student life. Open every day from 6am to 11pm, whether you’re an early riser or a late-night lifter, there’s plenty of time to get a workout in. Even better, it’s the cheapest gym in the University, with an annual membership costing just £45.

The gym now runs on a fob access system, which you can pick up from reception when you buy your membership (there’s a £5 refundable deposit for the fob). While the gym is on the smaller side, it’s fully equipped with everything you need. The front room focuses mainly on cardio, with a Concept2 bike, rowing machine and a Matrix treadmill, alongside leg extension and leg curl machines, a GHD, and a set of dumbbells from 1–10kg. There’s also a water fountain to keep you going.
Head through to the back room and you’ll find the free weights and strength training area, complete with heavier dumbbells from 10–45kg, a squat rack, benches, and a functional trainer/cable machine – perfect for building strength or following a more structured programme.
To further support accessibility, the gym now offers women-only hours on Tuesdays from 5–7pm.
With its long opening hours and super convenient location right by college, St Chad’s Gym makes fitness welcoming and stress-free. We’re thrilled that the renovations are being so well received, with over 100 new members joining this year. Whether you’re completely new to the gym or a seasoned gym-goer, St Chad’s Gym is a great place to train, feel comfortable, and stay active.
