Meals Bursaries

Thanks to the generosity of alumni donors, St Chad’s was able to offer last year a total of 765 meals in Chad’s to a total of 72 students who live out and who are struggling to afford nourishing food. Here are a few of their acknowledgements:

• I was so grateful to be granted some meal tickets as part of the meal scheme last term, it made such a difference to me during a difficult term. What I loved most about being able to have some of my meals in college was feeling part of college life again and to be able to chat, meet and just be with other Chad’s students, especially as I don’t live with my close friends. I love working in Chad’s libraries and found it so comforting and helpful to be able to pop downstairs and fuel myself to carry on. The support of this meals bursary and the ability to eat well in Chads has been extremely beneficial for me. Thank you so much!

• Support from the meals bursary scheme has significantly benefited my wellbeing by relieving the mental burden of having to think about the next time I will be able to eat. I often get to the end of the day realising I have only eaten an apple, and by the time I get back from the library I don’t have any energy left to cook.

• After the sudden passing of my Father, our family lost our major income. As a result, money was tight and although I am on the full student loan, it only just about covers my rent. However, this money sometimes doesn’t quite make ends meet and I have to ask for money from my Mum. I don’t love doing this as things are so tight at home so even having a few meals in college a week has made a huge difference to my monthly spending and eased my financial stress. Thank you!
