PhD Scholarship – Women in STEM (Geography)

St Chad’s College and Department of Geography Woman in STEM Doctoral Student Scholarship

St Chad’s College is pleased to collaborate with Durham University’s Department of Geography to support an outstanding woman seeking to pursue doctoral research.

The successful candidate will study for a PhD in the Department of Geography while also playing a full and active role in the life of St Chad’s College. This joint scholarship offer is open to students studying for a PhD in the research areas linked to the Sea Level, Ice and Climate cluster within the Department of Geography.

St Chad’s College will provide the student with £3,000 per year, for up to 3.5 years. As a student at St Chad’s College, the successful candidate will be expected to live in College accommodation (catered and self-catered are available) for the duration of their studies and will also have access to further bursary support available through St Chad’s.

It is anticipated that the student will begin their studies in September/October 2026.

Candidates should begin initial discussions with an appropriate supervisor in the Department of Engineering before submitting –

  • A project proposal of no more than 1000 words that articulates its alignment to the work of the Sea Level, Ice and Climate cluster.
  • A cover letter setting our their interest in the scholarship, including their intended or previous involvement in St Chad’s College and financial need.
  • The names of two academic referees.

The scholarship is available to students studying on a full-time basis.
